The Hand of Fatima Movie Summary

Filmed in Morocco, The Hand of Fatima movie tells the adventure of music analyzer NY Times Robert Palmer’s relationship with an allegorical Sufi group known as the Master Musicians of Jajouka. Lured by the Master Musicians fictionalized story by William Burroughs and aided by the recordings of Rolling Stone group member, Brian Jones recorded their music, Palmer first visited Jajouka in 1971 on an assignment for Rolling Stone magazine. He met with Ornette Coleman in 1973, and was adopted by the leaders of what Timothy Leary alleged “a four thousand year old bedrock band.” Filmmaker Augusta Palmer examines the legends accustomed by Burroughs, Brion Gysin, and Stephen Davis (Jajouka Rolling Stone) by interviewing the bandage in their limited apple and a host of acclaimed admirers of the Master Musicians and Robert Palmer, whose book Deep Blues is a seminal history of American accepted music.  The Hand of Fatima movie is a film well worth watching for those with an interest in either the musical genre or personalities involved.
